TV Episodes on DVD

There's a new phenomena in TV episodes on DVD and I like it. After a season is done, episodes are quickly available on DVD for about 50$ a box set. Neat.
There's a new phenomena in TV episondes on TV and I hate it. After a few episodes, a series is almost always cancelled - especially if it's any good. Firefly, Wonderfalls, John Doe, Eyes, Angel, Farscape, etc.
When you're lucky, cancelled shows get a DVD out anyways (Firefly and Wonderfalls are great examples)
My favorite TV shows got cancelled so often that I now come to a point where I don't feel like starting to watch a new show.
There's a new series coming out by the creator of X-Files. I'm interrested. But I don't think I'll try it. 5 out of the last 5 series I tried starting to watch got canned after 3-4 episodes.
There's a new series coming out starring David Boreanaz (from Angel fame). I'm interrested. But ditto. (Hey, maybe it's the same series?)
I'd gladly subscribe to Firefly and receive 1 DVD with 2-3 episodes per month. If every show did something like that, I'd probably stop cable altogether. It almost only serves crappy reality shows anyways.
So that's where I stand. There's a new series coming out? Cool. I'll but the box set next year. Or maybe rent it.
And that, ladies and gentelment, really produces suction on the Equus asinus's hindquarters.
