A master's words...

This week, Brian shows us how to "pick up girls". Watch and learn as the sensei tells Zeb how its done.

Will the pupil turn out to best the master? Will the onslaught of cheezy pick-up lines ever end?

This might just be the start of a storyline...

On other zombie-related news, there's a cool webcomic called White Hydra. Its got zombies in there. Check it out!

I've also reviewed the Web UI on my Web & Design blog, if you're interrested in that kind of thing.

I've been thinking about cafepress, 99dogs and the other (potentially) existing such services on the net.

I've setup a Zombies? Online Shop at cafe press. We'll see how I'd go about promoting it.

Lemme know what you think! (either through comments or purchases ;) )

Linking to

Linking to Zombies? is, of course, completely encouraged.

In fact, if you own a piece of the Web that talks about zombies or webcomics, it's your duty to do so.

If you're looking for official link banners that you can copy on your site and use to link back here, this is the right place to look.

In the drink...

New monday, new comic!

I've been pretty busy all of last week and haven't had much time to walk the Zombie on the Web...

Well, there is one rater disturbing thing. An extra life lesson of some sort. There's an indie zombie film that's on the make.

What the life lesson?

Well, they're making a zombie movie based on a concept me and my bunch of friends have been wanting to do for quite some time. The idea is quite funny (zombie musical). We've had the idea for a few years. Wrote the script, a few songs. A short thingie (15 minutes thing).

In fact Zombies? is kind of a spawn of our multiple zombie movie ideas.

The lesson? Basically it's "get off your butt and do something about your ideas".

It's easy to have ideas. Even clever ideas about things that have never been done. I've had quite a few of them myself. I sit down and let them... mature... in my head for ages. Right until someone ends up with the same darn idea and just fraggin does it and release it.

Ideas are worthless if they're not realized.

One thing I come to realize, working in the software industry, is that even an half-assed attempt at making something is much more profitable than trying to make it perfect before it's out. Microsoft is the first example of this that comes to mind. There are notable exceptions to this (games made by Blizzard, for instance).

So if you've got a cool idea, flesh it out, work on it and make it true if you don't want the frustration of a) not achieving your dreams b) seeing someone else run and go with "your" cool idea.

You don't get something done by not doing it.

Happy Valentine's day!

It dawned upon me, last week, that today was going to be valentine's day.

Well, I knew that for some time now - I had plans for me and my girlfriend and all - but, y'know, I'm doing a comic about a Zombie looking for love.

And it was going to be Valentine's day.

And I was not prepared.

Not one to back down from a challenge, I give you a flash "Valentine Zeb Doll". I hope you likey.

On some non-zombie related news:

On some more zombie-related news: I got myself Day of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Shaun of the Dead lately. Expect some more zombie reviews from Marianne (on these and/or other movies) soon. And perhaps from me. But I'm busy doing comics. You might've heard about them. It's about a zombie, looking for love...

And since I have to link to some zombie stuff to keep my promise, there's a cool post from daveXtreme which discusses the rules to an hypothetic zombie-infested civilisation. Fun, I say. So go and have some of it!!

Zombie Movie Review...

You might've missed it, since it was stealthier than a ninja on a pillow. We've had our very first movie review. Check it out. Let us know what you think!

Some have it all...

Second strip's up!

Or is soon to be, since I'm posting this before the hour where the strip actually comes up. If it's not up now, it should be up in a few hours!

For those of you who might be interested, I'm right where I want to be - bunch a strips written in advance, bunch of strips realized in advance. Shouldn't mess up my schedule.

What I had not anticipated, is that it takes forever for you guys to actually get to see the stuff. Dang, I can't wait!

And I can't wait to get enough stuff in there to start really working on getting some people here to read it!

Anyway... since I'm always trying to link some new zombie material with each post, I'll share a cool resource I found that might give some ideas on how to define zombies: The Monstrous Zombies page. It's neat.

What they suggest is this:

A zombie is a dead person that is brought back to life through a curse (voodoo, necromancy) or a mutation and has recovered some vital functions like movement.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Though they argue that the following are not to be considered zombies:

  • A mummy
  • A ghoul
  • A frankenstein-like monster

With what I tend to disagree, but tend to nod in favor of their arguments.

I still consider most mummies to be some kind of "super zombies". I can understand and agree to their argumenation of ghouls - though the "ghouls" of Night Of The Living Dead (1968) are zombies. I can also understand their argument about the frankenmonsters.

But I wouldn't dismiss their zombieness right out of hand.

Okay, so that's for the zombie link - there's alot of other neat stuff about zombies in there...

On the up and coming this week: our first Zombie Movie Review by Marianne, which I'll introduce when the timing's perfect.

And I need to find Zombie-related places that'll link to here! We needs them links! We wants traffic, my precioussss!

See you around!

Zombie Infection Simulation

Zombie Infection Simulation is hours of fun, I tell you. Hours. Packages of 3600 seconds.

Okay, so, now that you're back from hours of giggling madly as every dot onscreen turning green, proving - once again - that zombies are an instoppable force of the universe, let's talk about Syndication.

See the right column of the page? There's a syndication "section" with a big orange button labeled "XML". If you click it (not now, or you'll go away), you'll see instructions on how tu use the Zombies? RSS feed.

If you have an RSS reader, it means you can get your reader to checkup on Zombies? and tell you when there's something new on Zombies?

What's an RSS reader? Glad I asked! It's a software (or sometimes, a Web service) that works pretty much like a mail reader. But it checks RSS feeds instead of email.

When you click on the "XML" button from Zombies?, you'll see a few recommended readers. I haven't tried these yet. They're still recommended by feedburner.

I've used RSS Reader, which is okay. And I'm currently using Bloglines, which is Web based and nice (it also has a little tool that sits on your toolbar and warns you when there's something new). None of them are perfect, so I'll most likely check out whatever feedburner suggests.

If you're curious as to what RSS feeds I'm subscribing to, you can see them on my bloglines blogroll.

Kung Fu Hustle

Who, in their right mind, would like to miss this movie? Not me, for sure! And if it's not just my mind playing tricks on me, I think I saw a zombie in there! Yess! This movie seems like an unavoidable one! Hooray for March!

On another, quite unrelated spin, I've been having this problem to solve lately: what is a zombie? Or, what is it that makes a zombie... a zombie?

I've spoken with Marianne, a good friend of mind, about this and we have yet to reach a complete conclusion. Are zombies simply dead walking from their graves? Would a vampire count as a zombie?

I need to build some kind of rules that define what a zombie is, if I'm to link and evaluate zombie-related things.

So, what I have for now is:

  • They are animated corpses but they need to have a good percentage of flesh on them. We're not talking about animated skeletons here. They can't be 100% preserved either.
  • They're contagious, somehow (usually through their bite)

And I have quite a few questions...

  • Are mummies a kind of zombie? I'd say yes.
  • Are vampires a kind of zombie? I'd say no.
  • Is Jason (from Friday the 13th) a zombie? I'd say yes.
  • Are all zombies brainless? I'd say no.
  • Is the sole objective of a zombie to eat brains? I'd say no.

I'd like my zombie definition to be able to consider a good number of interpretations of zombies. The talking zombies of Dead Alive, fast zombies, slow zombies, etc.

So, send your comments and let me know what you think makes a zombie... a zombie. I need that data.
